Notre Heritage
A thousand years of Moroccan ceramic mastery, from the kilns of Fez and Safi to your table.
In the ancient medinas of Fez and along the Atlantic coast of Safi, master artisans have shaped clay into art for over a millennium. Their craft is not merely technique, it is a living tradition passed from master to apprentice, hand to hand, generation to generation. Maison Chapuis exists to honor this heritage, bringing authentic Moroccan ceramics to the world while sustaining the artisans and communities who create them.
From Morocco to Your Home
Handcrafted in the ancient medinas of Fez, Safi, and Marrakech — each piece carries centuries of tradition
A Legacy in Clay
The Birth of Fassi Ceramics
In the medina of Fez, the first ceramic workshops emerged alongside the founding of the Al-Qarawiyyin. Artisans began perfecting the art of zellige, cutting intricate geometric mosaics by hand from glazed terracotta tiles.
The Golden Age of Moroccan Craft
Under the Marinid dynasty, Moroccan ceramics reached their zenith. The master potters of Fez and Safi developed distinctive blue-and-white palettes using cobalt pigments, creating pieces sought after across the Mediterranean world.
Safi Rises as the Pottery Capital
The coastal city of Safi became Morocco's pottery heartland. Its unique clay deposits and proximity to trade routes made it the center for functional ceramics, tagines, bowls, and platters that married beauty with daily use.
Preserving the Tradition
As industrialization threatened artisan crafts worldwide, Moroccan ceramic masters passed their techniques through apprenticeship, keeping alive the hand-throwing, hand-painting, and wood-fired kiln traditions that define authentic Moroccan pottery.
Maison Chapuis
Maison Chapuis partners directly with master artisans in Fez and Safi, bringing their extraordinary work to the world. Every piece is made by hand using traditional methods, ensuring these centuries-old techniques endure for generations to come.
Guiding Principles

Artisan Excellence
Every piece is shaped on the wheel by hand, painted with natural pigments, and fired in traditional kilns. No two pieces are identical, each carries the subtle signature of its maker.

Sustainable by Nature
Our artisans work with locally sourced clay, natural mineral pigments, and wood-fired kilns. These are techniques that have sustained communities for centuries without depleting the earth.

Timeless by Design
Geometric patterns symbolize infinity and the divine. Floral motifs evoke the paradise gardens of Islamic tradition. Every design carries meaning refined over a thousand years.
